It is sometimes called "The Cherrapunji of the South" afterCherrapunji, in Northeast India.Agumbe is associated with rainforest conservation efforts, documentation ofmedicinal plants, tourism .

Location: Agumbe lies in the West coastal region of South India(Shimoga District), approximately 100  km north-east ofMangaloreand 357 km north-west ofBangalore, the state capital ofKarnatakain South India. It is approximately 24 km fromShringeriand 55 km from theArabian Seaand thecoast of India atUdupitown which hosts the nearest big railway station.

I've been hoping to visit this unique place again.
Gazing clouds😎😎

My last visit to Agumbe was 2 years ago .That visit was a short one which hold memories in my life.

Well me and my friend(Shailesh) were planning weeks ago to visit Agumbe.. Well who doesn't know Agumbe. This small village is well known over the state of Karnataka being 2nd highest in receiving of annual rainfall annually ,the first being
Cherrapunjee ,hence Agumbe is also called as Cherrapunjee of The South.

Enough with the introduction now. Let us go back on to Travel Mode.

Traveling date was on 26th September 2017. I happen to stay on Mangalore and planning to catch up with my travel partner from Manipal . I left Mangalore on the 25th at 11:30 pm midnight. The journey from Mangalore to Manipal was smooth with less traffic since it was past midnight . Darkness was everywhere and the darkness was ruling the national highway . There was goods truck and minimal cars plying on the vast road.

I reached Manipal safe and sound at 1:00 am . I managed to travel the route in one and a half hour. Not bad!!! After reaching Manipal met my friends and after some conversation went to sleep getting ready for the day trip about to initiate in 3 hours time..

We left Manipal at 8:00am .Got caught in traffic wasted some precious time there. The plan was to visit Agumbe via Hebri road, then Kundadri hill and Sringeri the temple town.

The ride was a smooth one except for some rash bus drivers we meet on the way. Rash driving is common in these roads .

We stopped by a shop at Someshwara for some break. Had tea and rest at a small local shop.

They organise River Rafting too on this fast flowing seasonal river.

Stopped at the Indian Oil Petrol Bunk to fill fuel for further journey.
Next we encountered the Agumbe Ghat Hairpin road. Riding on these turns is tiring but totally worth it . Total time to cross the Ghat is 15minutes max. After crossing the Ghat one can find the Agumbe Sunset View Point on the Left side of the road. Parking is available a little ahead though.
Welcome to Shimoga District,Karnataka

A little further more one crosses the Agumbe Forest Check Post . From here Agumbe is 1km ahead . We stopped for a year at Agumbe .We happen to meet puppies besides the shop we drank tea.

Well we managed to snap some photos with them with the catchful eye of the Dogs mother looking anxiously from the other side of the road.

Such a Poser..😀😀

Dog's lover 🐕🐕🐕🐕

Next destination was Kundadri . After having tea we moved on to our next destination on the days list .Curvy uphill roads takes you up to the top of the hill. One can find a temple which is constructed with stone statues of jain sages.

Google Map Welcomed us .. :) :)

Walk these final steps and boom your at Kundadri Hill

The Jain Temple atop the hill

The hills have eyes🏔

Top of the hill gives one a 270° view of the plains nearby . The place is a paradise for landscape photography. If one visit early in the morning one can sight clouds covering the green valley of the plains below the hill.

I'm all the way up

A must visit place to escape the hustling sound of city life

Next blog coming soon.. do watch out..

About Me

I could look back at my life and get a good story out of it. It's a picture of somebody trying to figure things out. Great things in business are never done by one person. They’re done by a team of people.
